Freemasons have
helped save the equivalent of four lives by raising more than £6,000 for the
Surrey Air Ambulance.
A group of nine
members from four lodges throughout the county visited the helicopter’s
Dunsfold base to hand over their cheque to the life-saving crew.
In total, they
raised a massive £6,350 for the charity which needs £1.7m-a-year to stay
airborne. Each flying mission alone costs between £1,500 and £2,000.
Provincial Grand
Master Eric Stuart-Bamford and fellow freemasons were given a guided tour of
the MD902 helicopter by Chief Pilot Peter Driver, Dr
Eric said: “It
gives us a great deal of satisfaction to be able to help such a very worthy
cause. It’s an absolute superb service beyond reproach.
“I have
admiration for the air ambulance and the service it provides. There is clearly
a need for what it can do for the welfare of humanity.”
She said: “Having
their support is crucial to our fundraising. Our crews could not do what they
do without the support of the community.
“Our thanks go to
the freemasons for their fantastic and continued support.”
