Classic car enthusiasts completed a
50-mile blat at the weekend (April 24) to raise £1,400 for the Surrey Air
Ambulance.
The county branch of the Lotus 7
Club started off at Ryka’s Café at Boxhill and finished at the helicopter base
at Dunsfold.
Their route took them through towns
and villages including
Organiser Rob Rennie, from Ashtead,
was among more than 40 Caterham 7 owners and passengers who paid £10 each to
raise cash for the Surrey Air Ambulance.
He said: “We just like getting out
in our cars and having a blat round the countryside and it’s been a huge amount
of fun.
“We’ve also had the feelgood factor
of chipping in some money to an extremely worthwhile cause. We never know when
we may need it.”
During their visit to Dunsfold, the
car owners were pictured proudly next to their cars in a horseshoe formation
around the MD902 helicopter.
It costs £1.7m-a-year to keep the
Surrey Air Ambulance airborne and each flying mission costs between £1,500 and
£2,000.
Surrey County Fundraiser Julie
Jenkinson said, “It’s been absolutely stunning to see all these amazing cars and
to have them come here and fundraise on our
behalf.”
